The Voynich Manuscript is meant to be the most mysterious manuscript worldwide. It`s language, it`s symbols, remain unknown. Wilfrid M. Voynich was the man who found it. He was a Lithuanian guy, captured by Russians and taken to Siberia, from he escaped in 1890. He stayed in Hamburg for a while and then moved to London. It is known that he spoke as much as 18 languages, but all pretty bad...
Even though he translated Marx into English. Very soon his interest for the old books became well known in London, specifically in Soho Square. In 1912 went to Italy where bought the manuscript that nowadays bares his name. Just at the beginning of the 1st world war he moved to NY.
The Manuscript is written in an unknown script which several famous linguists and cryptologist have been unable to decrypt since the manuscript's first public presentation in 1915. Some years later American and British codebreaker from the world war II tried to decipher it, without results.
Some people thought that probably Voynich had invented all, but recent analysis discovered that the manuscript was written in the 15th century. Detail:
